A physically demanding and rewarding program that embraces the strength of both traditional and 21st-Century concert dance.

Rising 7th-12th-Graders
June 16 - July 20, 2019

Summer dance is an intensive five-week program that offers rising 7th-12th-grade students (who apply during their 6th-11th grade school year) pre-professional training in classical ballet with a modern/contemporary dance component. The ballet program, similar to the residential program, is based on long-established concepts and ideas taken from the Vaganova, Cecchetti and R.A.D. schools. The modern/contemporary dance component exposes students to theoretical concepts rooted in principles based on the Graham, Horton, Limon, and Cunningham techniques.

Our Summer Dance program, like our Residential High School program, is committed to remaining at the forefront of a fast-changing dance world by complementing its classical ballet and modern dance training with a diverse range of concert dance and dance related forms such as Variation, Men’s Technique, Basic Partnering, Character, Pantomime/Acting for Dancers, Yoga, Movement Improvisation, Movement Composition, African Dance, Stretch & Strength and Nutrition.

  • Students must be 12-years-old by June 1, 2019 to attend.
  • Out-of-state students can apply for this program.
