A physically demanding and rewarding program that embraces the strength of both traditional and 21st-Century concert dance.
Students apply in 6th - 11th grade
June 19 - July 23
Summer dance is an intensive program that offers pre-professional training in classical ballet with a modern/contemporary dance component. The ballet program, similar to the residential program, is based on long-established concepts and ideas taken from the Vaganova, Cecchetti and R.A.D. schools. The modern/contemporary dance component exposes students to theoretical concepts rooted in principles based on the Graham, Horton, Limon, and Cunningham techniques.
Our Summer Dance program, like our Residential High School program, is committed to remaining at the forefront of a fast-changing dance world by complementing its classical ballet and modern dance training with a diverse range of concert dance and dance related forms such as Variation, Men’s Technique, Basic Partnering, Historical Dance, Pantomime/Acting for Dancers, Yoga, Movement Improvisation, African Dance, Stretch & Strength and Nutrition.
- Students must be 12-years-old by June 1 to attend.
- Out-of-state students can apply for this program.

How to Apply
You are strongly encouraged to apply during our Early Decision process in the fall. While we do hold auditions for Regular Decision in February, most of our spaces are filled during the Early Decision audition process.
An online application process, which includes demographic and arts information, must be completed to be considered for admission. The online application portal will be used to request recommendations and upload other required materials.
- Early Decision Dance Deadline: October 18, 2021
- Regular Decision Dance (priority deadline): January 7, 2022
- The Audition
Summer Dance auditions will be held in-person this year. Selected applicants will be invited to an audition made up of three parts: a ballet class, a modern class, and a brief interview conducted in small groups. Standard dance attire is expected during the audition.
While submitting a video audition is an option, especially for out-of-state applicants, participating in an in-person audition is strongly recommended.
